Guidelines to help clinical trials reduce CO2 emissions launched

Carbon Reduction Guidelines to help support health researchers in the fight against carbon emissions have today been launched by the National Institute for Health Research. These guidelines have been designed to help the NHS meet its carbon reduction target as set by the Climate Change Act, through the publication of the Carbon Reduction Strategy for the NHS in England. continue link

Patient and Public members sought for Research Capability Programme Pilot Health Research Support Service

A Health Research Support Service is being created by the NIHR Research Capability Programme (RCP). NIHR Public Health Research programme first project launches

14 January 2010
The National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Public Health Research programme announces the start of its first funded project which evaluates the Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) ‘Campaign for School Gardening’.  The project, led by Professor Janet Cade at the University of Leeds, will run over three years and will evaluate whether the RHS campaign increases intake of fruit and vegetables in primary school children. continue

NIHR HTA programme seeks to appoint two leaders in health technology assessment to chair boards

The National Institute for Health Research Health Technology Assessment (NIHR HTA) Programme commissions research to produce independent information about the effectiveness, costs and broader impact of healthcare treatments and tests for those who plan, provide or receive care in the NHS. continue link

Pandemic flu research

24th August 2009
As part of the ongoing Department of Health (DH) response to H1N1 ‘swine flu' pandemic, the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) is commissioning research looking into the prevention, treatment and management of swine flu. NETSCC is supporting the NIHR by pro-actively managing the research process for these projects. continue

NETSCC is responding to urgent national research priorities in relation to flu including a recent call for proposals on the co-administration of vaccines for influenza. It has also coordinated a themed call for research proposals that will inform policy and patient care in the current influenza pandemic. Outcomes from these calls are available on the NETSCC website.

Public Health Minister opens Southampton based research management centre

14th October 2008 
The Rt Hon Dawn Primarolo MP, Minister of State for Public Health, and Professor Sally C. Davies, Director General of Research and Development, have today visited the University of Southampton Science Park to open a new research management centre, the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC), and announce the launch of the NIHR Health Services Research programme. continue link

Professor Catherine Law to head up NIHR Public Health Research programme

August 2008 
Professor Catherine Law of the UCL Institute of Child Health has been appointed Director of the National Institute for Health Research Public Health Research (NIHR PHR) programme. Professor Law will take up her new position on 1st October 2008. continue link

£10 million per year for public health research

NETSCC is part of the University of Southampton.The NIHR Public Health Research programme is funded by the NIHR, with contributions from the CSO in Scotland, NISCHR in Wales and HSC R&D, Public Health Agency, Northern Ireland.
